FEMALE ENTREPRENEURS! Take a break from your number crunching—this article’s for you.

Here at Grant Me The Wisdom we have more than our fair share of experience granting money to female-led projects in education, healthcare, and media. Providing monetary support to professional women is, dare I say it, our number one task and motivator as an organization. To that end, we thought we’d further our support by showing some love to women in the ever-male-dominated business sector.

Apparently—and I about had a conniption when I found this statistic—only

2.7% of all venture capital was granted to women in 2019. To help raise awareness of the disproportionate amount of female CEO’s receiving support from investment funds, we’ve pulled together a list of seven organizations seeking to invest in female entrepreneurs. Scroll down to see our picks, and scroll further to catch our grand finale surprise at the end

Investors seeking female entrepreneurs:

1. Halogen Ventures is a venture capital fund that invests in female-founded consumer technology startups. Among their portfolio are The Skimm, Silvernest, and Tea Drops.

2. Golden Seeds is an early-stage investment firm with one of the world’s largest angel networks. The firm focuses specifically on investing in women leaders, and has funded over 170 successful companies including BentoBox and Consortia Health. Golden Seeds is also a partner with Grant Me The Wisdom Foundation, so we’re naturally a little biased <3.

3. SoGal Ventures has made history being the “first female-led, next generation venture capital firm.” Their diverse portfolio includes Everlywell, Anomalie, and Function of Beauty.

4. Backstage Capital is a pioneering venture capital fund that invests in underrepresented founders, specifically women, people of color, and the LGBT+ community. The Backstage Capital portfolio includes Color Farm, Bitwise, and Journey Foods.

5. 500 Startups was the #1 most active global venture capital firm in the world for 2019. The organization’s “goal is to back the best, regardless of race, gender and geography.” They have supported household brands such as Canva, Udemy, and Mejuri.

6. Built By Girls Ventures (otherwise known as BBG Ventures) is another early-stage fund seeking to invest in female founders of consumer tech startups. Squad and Zola Wedding Registry are two successful startups in BBG Ventures’ portfolio.

7. Harbinger Ventures focuses specifically on businesses within the consumer sector led by female founders. Harbinger holds a 22M fund and has worked with trusted brands such as Once Upon a Farm and Vinebox.

But WAIT! There’s more...

As a grand finale, we’ve included a link to The Fundery: The Essential Venture Capital Database for Women Entrepreneurs. If you’re a woman in a startup (or at any stage of your company, really), take advantage of this extensive database. You got this! Now go out and get that cheddar.

WEEKLY CHALLENGE: Find a woman-run business and buy a product or service from them, large or small. If you like your purchase, tell a friend about it.

Till next time, friends. Peace out.
